What is the difference between the purity state of a Zen practitioner and a non-zen practitioner?
Date: 12-03-2022||
the Buddha wrote in the Vajra Sutra as follows: "Following Buddhism, if you meet the Buddha, you must kill the Buddha". When you practice Zen Buddhism, this sentence must be taken as a standard for your practice.
Student asked:
Someone said “Before I knew Zen Buddhism, I already knew the purity state.” Please explain to me: Is there any difference between the purity state of a non-zen practitioner and the purity state of a Zen enlightened person, or the purity state of a person who can see by the Buddha's eyes?
Teacher replied:
Students studying Zen Buddhism should understand in depth the following three basics:
- One: The earth rotates in eight directions, impossible to stay still and pure.
- Two: The earth is inhabited by five species: Humans - Deities - Saints - Fairies and Hungry Ghosts.
- Three: Hungry Ghosts specialize in doing things according to the desire of human beings. Therefore, whatever a cultivator desires to achieve, Hungry Ghosts satisfy him/her right away. So those who have a body of high negative frequency, whatever they like, Hungry Ghosts satifsy them with it.
+ If humans like purity, Hungry Ghosts satisfy them with purity.
+ If humans like to practice to achieve something, Hungry Ghosts also help them to achieve that.
+ If humans like to practice Arahantship, Hungry Ghosts help them to attain Arahantship.
+ If humans like to practice to become Emperors, Hungry Ghosts also help them to become Emperors, etc.
That's why the Buddha taught: this Earth is earthly and deceitful. Who deceive us? It is Hungry ghosts. So if you practice Zen Buddhism and want to have a purity state, Hungry ghosts will help you feel the purity state. If you want to be enlightened by Dharma, Hungry Ghosts will help you be enlightened by Dharma. If you want an epiphany, Hungry Ghosts help you see epiphanies.
In order to help Zen Buddhists not to be deceived by Hungry Ghosts, the Buddha wrote in the Vajra Sutra as follows: "Following Buddhism, if you meet the Buddha, you must kill the Buddha". When you practice Zen Buddhism, this sentence must be taken as a standard for your practice. Listen to the 8- sentence verse of the Buddha’s teaching:
The world is full of lies and figments.
If practicing, one is deceived by a fabricator.
Worldly, lying, double-tongued
Lure and deceive stupid people for money.
In this world, money is all
A cunning scheme deceiving people for the sake of money.
Zen Buddhism says obviously and brightly
No more scammers, no longer any deception.
