I see that many pagodas often pray for peace of mankind on the New Year's day. I want to ask whether this such prayer brings luck, happiness and peace to the people

Student asked:

Uncle Ho teaches us "About life, be a good person. About religion, be a right believer". Likewise,  Zen Buddhism teaches us "Benevolence - Righteousness - Decorum - Wisdom - Faithfulness". However, I see that many pagodas often pray for peace of mankind on Spring festival. I wonder whether these prayers bring luck, happiness and peace to the people?

Teacher replied:

Buddha said that “don’t cook sand into rice”. Peace is up to you. Keep imagining and thinking, so you are not peaceful. Stop imagining and thinking, peace comes. Just it! If all citizens in a nation use imagination, the nation will become chaotic. You need to live and think realistically: For example, if no more rice for your family to eat? You earn a living to buy it. Problem solved! How can you pray, then food appears? How can you pray then money appears? Just go to work to have money to buy food. Zen Zong dharma is realistic and not secluded. Make a living to take care of yourself, your family, your nation. It is very simple.
