In Tan Dieu Zen pagoda, why is there no abbot?
Teacher answer:
You should know that: The role of an abbot is to stay in a pagoda to look after that pagoda, but now I have a Board of Management, the Management Board composes 11 departments, in which there is one department responsible for preservation (preservation department preserves the pagoda), what do I need an abbot for?
Because the organization of Tan Dieu Zen Pagoda is very different from the other physical pagodas, this pagoda is organized like a factory owned and managed and has the departments in charge of its operation. The abbot position becomes redundant for Tan Dieu zen pagoda, so we don’t need to hire an abbot. Let’s think if this pagoda hires an abbot to look after the pagoda, while in this pagoda there is already a team constantly guarding which is responsible for any loss of this pagoda. It also has a Security Department which is responsible for the security of this pagoda. It makes the abbot position become extra and useless in the organization.

Among 36 Zen Zong Patriarches, the 33rd one, Master Huineng, who strictly forbids sitting meditation.
Because in this world, from practicing meditation people think they get what they want. Who helps to realize their imagination? In Zen Buddhism Science Teaching book, Buddha said: There are 10 types of wandering saints (forsaken spirit) - when one meditates dreaming of becoming something or someone, the 10 negative suction holes on one’s head will pull the respective saint type immediately.
It explains why nowadays there are so many people claiming: Emperor Jade, they climbed up the mountain to sit meditation and declared: Now I am enlightened - I am jade emperor - I am sakya buddha...
Due to that reason, zen buddhism absolutely does not allow sitting meditation. If you sit meditation you attach to it immediately, you are engrossed in your daydreams. Therefore, Tan Dieu zen pagoda does not organize meditation sessions.
